Migration of a shop, a website or a whole VPS

From one server to another, with an agreed downtime and a rehearsal before the DNS switch. One site, one shop or a whole VPS.

Who it is for

Fixed price. For anyone changing supplier, leaving shared hosting for a VPS, or having to move everything because the old server is at end of life. A PrestaShop shop, a WordPress site or a whole VPS with every site it hosts, mail included.

The downtime is agreed beforehand and kept: everything is copied, the new site is tested on a staging address, and only when it answers the same the DNS is switched. The old server stays on until it is no longer needed.

What it covers

  • inventory of what is on the old server: sites, databases, mailboxes, cron jobs, certificates, forgotten things
  • copy of files and databases, with a test on a staging address before the switch
  • DNS switch with the TTL lowered beforehand, certificates reissued, redirects where needed
  • check after the switch, pages and mail, and the old server shut down only at the end

You choose the destination server; if you want advice, it is in the quote. Hardening the new server is the audit, a separate engagement.

What you get

The site or server answering from the new place as it did from the old, a downtime inside the agreed window and the inventory of what was moved, so you know what is there and where.

Questions

How long is the shop down?
The time it takes to copy the last database and switch the DNS: usually under an hour, at night or when sales are low. The window is written in the quote and the files are copied beforehand, with the site live.
What about email?
If the mailboxes live on the server being moved, they move too, messages included. If they live elsewhere, they are left alone. SPF, DKIM and DMARC are redone for the new server.
Does the old provider have to cooperate?
Access to the server or the panel is enough. If they refuse, we start from the backup you have and the report says what is missing.

From the email to the invoice

  2. 1 working dayyou get an acknowledgement with the missing questions, or the quote with price, deliverables and timing. The quote is valid for fifteen days
  3. On your yesthe proforma invoice arrives. Fixed price work is paid half up front and half on completion, the cleanup starts on a deposit, the monthly block is paid before the month
  4. On paymentwork starts. Access is exchanged only now, on a dedicated account and over an agreed channel, never in the order email
  5. When the work endsreport, electronic invoice for the balance, access revoked

What stays out

  • upgrading the CMS version during the migration, which is done afterwards, on the new server
  • the new server's fee, which you pay to the provider
  • Windows servers: the work is on Linux

Order from Detector, the client portal: hours come off your prepaid balance and the proforma is issued from there, with no email in between.
